I try to do 2 miles or 40 mins brisk walk every day...with these two..the ginger one is lady...our Nova Scotian Duck tolling retriever crossed with a collie, and Peppa our show cocker ..they're our babies I find walking helps with many aspects of the condition.
I don't get much benefit from exercise either - I've always been pretty active and take the dogs for about 2 x 3 mile walks a day in the woods (one of them is a Border Collie which helps make sure we take them regularly!) and it never brings my BG down at all. I also play 5 a side once a week which causes massive spikes but it's the only spike I get now I'm tightly controlling my diet and I enjoy it too much to stop
Walking is a key part of my diabetic routine with regular 5km walks first thing in the morning . I believe it not only lowers my levels immediately but also actually helps me keep lower levels for the rest of the day; something to do with enzymes released during exercise.
It is also a wonderful way to lower stress, which also leads to improved glycemic control,
Interesting that it does not seem to work for about 20 per cent of us though.
All depends which side of that 20 per cent boundary you fall, does it not.
Actually since reducing my metformin I find that I can no longer exercise before breakfast without triggering a liver damp and causing a rise in my levels. They do fall back quite quickly afterwards to my normal post prandial post breakfast ; probably the liver using glucose to replenish glycogen supplies
