Hi,
I am type1 mid 40 y/o Man type1 since child. Been taking Simvastatin for about 3 years now.
I have researched that this drug can give you muscle pain.
I am currently experiencing pain in my right arm including weakness in this arm, I am also aware my other arm also but not like other. Sometimes its in my neck also and down to my hands which also at times feeling cold and not a lot of feeling.
I guess this is unrelated that I am also experiencing needing to pee a whole lot, at times 3 to 4 times in night. During day time its just embarrassing at times can get urgency and then if not in time..
In the past a diabetic specialist doctor told me to run my BG's higher between 12mmol to 15 for a period of time namely 8 to 12 weeks to regain my hypo awareness and stop the need for peeing so much. I am currently doing this now by taking Lantus at 6 units at night and 6 units morning and adjusting Novo Rapid accordingly.
I will speak to specialist quite soon although my HBA1c remain good and feeling health professionals want to know this and then usher to the exit until next year.
If I am honest this is really getting me down right now and affecting my life very negatively.
I am sharing this to see if any forum members can relate here.
Best wishes to all here and thanks if you read this

I can't help with strategies for hypo awareness though 12 seems a bit high and might possible cause your need to pee often as levels as high as that makes your kidneys pass sugar, with possible damage to them as a result.
Simvastatin is prescribed for high cholesterol. What are your cholesterol breakdown numbers? Simvastatin is known to have a lot of side effects, as most statins. You might want to have a chat with your doctor about coming off them for a while.

Oops - typos! That's 'of Statguard!Get your statins changed - Simvastatin causes many people to have muscle aches & cramps (it also caused me not to sleep well). I changed to Atorvastatin plus I take a daily capsule if Statgusrd (you can get it on Amazon) & the problem went after 3-4 days. (I've been Type 1 for 3 years).

The advice to run your bg levels at 12-15mmol/l over a 12 week period doesn't seem right, it certainly wouldn't help with your urinary issues @DiabeticDustbin
I've not lost my hypo awareness before but I would have though the advice would be to run bg levels higher but below 10, why don't you double check with the specialist and ask what bg range you should be aiming for.
As for the aches & pains, it could be statin related or totally unrelated, the best person to discuss this with is your gp, we can only speculate on the cause.
I took Simvastatin for about 8 years I never had any muscle pain though or any other side effects from it but as my cholesterol was not as low as the doctor wanted it to be I was changed to 40mg of Atorvastatin about 18 months ago and have not had any problem with side effects from that eitherThank you Noblehead for Reply.
The GP's are currently extremely not-understanding, so i don't waste there time or mine. I have an appointment with Specialist soon.
I am very aware of how my BGs should be but seems I have kind of lost control of bladder, at times very badly.
A specialist Diabetic dr advised me to run higher BGs in past to bring back hypo awareness and improve frequency of peeing.
He said my body will become used to High BGs and frequency would improve and hypo awerness return. which it did. I then had to slowly bring my BG's back into range, hypo feelings at 6mmol, it made sense if one was running uncontrolled high BGs but feeling well with it. I also understand that near on 40years type1 I'm going to get problems.
As for this muscle problem again the specialist can give me his opinion on the statins I'm taking.
Thanks again for reply
