Treatment type
Insulin
Hi everyone. I'm a single mum of a three year old daughter. She was diagnosed with leukemia back in June last year & as part of her treatment has steroids every month for five days & has steroid induced diabetes. They are saying she's a unique case because most kids come off the Insulin between doses but she can't. Just wondered if anyone has been the same or is the same . Also is having alot of hypos in the morning. Thanks

Hello lou44, I'm afraid I can't help with your question. But wanted to say, I am so sorry to read of little girls medical problems and I hope the treatment is successful and you can both look forward to a more healthier and a happier future.

Hi I'm really sorry to hear about your daughter @lou44 . I don't have any experience of this. Just wondering though if her insulin is a bit too much if she is having hypos in a morning. Does she have long acting and short acting with her meals? Little ones have such small doses anyway maybe drop her long acting by half a unit - that's what I would do to either myself (t1) or my daughter t1 age2 if it's pre breakfast. But not sure if it's different in your case. Assuming it may change depending when she has steroids. I've had steroids in the past and they do tend to raise blood sugars. Have you got a diabetes nurse you can speak to?
Big hugs it must be very hard for you xx
