Insulin was first used successfully for the treatment of Type 1 diabetics 88 years ago and we can thank Sir Frederick Banting for that.

Before 1921 it was exceptional for people with Type 1 diabetes to live longer than a year or two.

The first article is remarkable! Imagine the joy of the childrens families when they started to come round from death's door! Sir Frederick Banting.........we all owe you a debt of gratitude, without your expertise we would not be here today!

I still think it's a disgrace that Best didn't officially share in the Nobel prize, although I believe that Banting shared with him. Says a lot about the man!
Any of you who have read about Lois Jovanovic, the diabetes doctor in California, may not have come upon the fact that her Grandmother was one of the first children treated with insulin. Dr. Jovanovic is a T1 herself and specialises in the care of mothers.
