Hi all. Hoping for a bit of advice….

I’ve just gone onto the Omnipod 5 after years of volatility and struggling. What a learning curve, but overall it’s going well.

I’m finding that the adhesive on the pods is great and stays put, which is a relief. However I’ve still got sticking issues with the libre 2 plus.I’ve always used a tegaderm to combat this, but think it takes up too much skin around the circumference so if I want to put my pod on my arm near the sensor the stickies would be too near as I have small arms.

I’ve bought some skintac wipes to try but can anyone just vouch for how to use them because I’ve read you shouldn’t put the wipe where the libre filament goes in. Is that right? Do I have to make a doughnut Shape around the middle?

Might sound like a daft question and most people would just trial and error, but tbh I’ve had a lot to contend with since going on the omnipod with failed sensors and pods, and my frayed nerves can’t chance another calamity! Haha!

Kind regards.

Paula

Some people say skintac can make the sensor not work but it hasn’t been officially tested. If you’re worried I’d say it’s best to do a circle. I’d also test the skintac first somewhere although they say it’s hypoallergenic I got a rash from it.

Good advice - thank you. I have sensitive skin and worried that the omnipod adhesive would irritate me but it’s been fine. A skin test somewhere else is a great idea.

Hi Paula.

I am also an Omnipod 5 closed loop user. I now use Dexcom g7 but did use libre 2 +. I did use skin tac and for me no issues with sensitivity or sensor not working. I did not leave a space around where filament goes in. I personally used patches from the “Not just a patch series “The ones like a cross I found did not take up so much space on my arm

Good luck

Thank you so much. I’ve tried those patches but was terribly allergic to them! It just goes to show how everyone can have a different reaction.

At the moment I’ve got the pod on my abdomen and a tegaderm on my libre which is on my arm. But I do think I’m going to have to try the skin tac.

I’ve also bought some sort of spray from Amazon. But similarly I’m not sure how to use it as oddly there aren’t any “do’s and dont’s “ on the packets.

I looked them up on the Abbott website and on AI, and it was on there it said to leave a doughnut.

I’ll try them when I’m settled in a bit. I’ve only been on the system for two weeks and I’ve also had proper flu so it has been a scary but hopeful baptism of fire!

Hi Paulaah. I would agree Omnipod 5 closed loop takes some getting used to. I still find it challenging and that is after a year. Currently having real issues with night time lows.

When you mentioned a spray I have used one called Cavilon which provides a protective layer onto which you stick your pod. You need to make sure your skin is dry before applying your pod.

Good luck let us know how you get on

Hi.

Thank you for the info. That is the spray I bought so I’ve now got a couple of options. (And know how to use them).

I’m interested in your experience with the omnipod 5 and your nighttime lows. How odd as that’s the very problem it boasts that it solves.

I do hope you get it sorted but I’m not sure how you would go about it given the algorithms. I’m taking it you’ve lifted your overnight target. Hope you get it sorted as it must prevent you from trusting it.
