Sleep problems

Hi,

I have been Low carbing since July and have lost 3 stone so far, still plenty to go. My problem is though that lately I have been waking up feeling awful. I ache all over and feel really tired. Ive been having pretty vivid dreams every night too. Also my morning blood sugars are higher than normal 8-10ish. My Hba1c in sept was 6.3%. Due again next week I have a feeling it will have gone up.

I have tried taking my evening SR Metformin earlier in the day, and not at all,, wondering if my levels were going too low overnight causing a morning Liver dump. But nothing seems to make a difference.

Can anyone give me any advice? Has this happened to you? Im begging for any help, ideas I can get.

Hi Lenny3,

I permanently low carb and although I can't offer you much of a solution I can at least tell you what I have tried. I have sleep problems as well, usually only managing 4 hours a night and I always have high readings in the morning.
Suggestions I have had to try are:
1. Eat a little bit of carbs before bed to prevent liver dumps.
2. Try 10 minutes brisk exercise before bed to bring the level down.
3. Drink a small shot of spirits before going to sleep to give the liver something to do.

I tried them all and they have not worked for me. :?

In order to get more sleep I now take an antihistamine (piriton - drowsy) every night along with two Nightall. By doing this I can ususally get 5 hours sleep which is quite deep instead of being restless but it doesn't help my morning readings.

I am now trying one last thing - I am 'fasting' (eating under 600 cals a day + low carbing) 3 days a week as that is supposed to bring down your overall blood sugars. I have only done it for a week and will not start testing till next week to see if it makes any difference. :)
