Hi Everyone,

Does anyone feel really tired just after a meal, particularly at lunchtime? I could fall asleep within about half an hour nearly every time. Is it just me?

Wow YES! I am exactly the same Jacqueline. Sometimes I don't even know I've gone to sleep until I wake up again 20 or v30 mins later!

That was very common for me when I would eat a high carb Meal
Once I started testing my blood sugar I realized it was because it was high.

It is probably because your sugar levels are too high due to too many carbs. Carbs make you sleepy, as do high sugar levels.

Are you doing anything to lower your sugar levels? Which medications are you taking? Have you tried testing when you feel like this?

I never feel high or low sugars from 25 to 3.3 I have zero awareness, never feel fuzzy. But if I eat naughty, I can’t keep my eyes open, I literally can’t stay awake, it’s liked I’ve been drugged, not nice at all

Is that not a sign of high sugars? Do you test at these times?

My sugars can be already high with no sense of it, if I have a naughty lunch, I will fall asleep at my desk, worse still when I’m driving, I literally have to fight to stay awake. I never have tested at these times, will test next time I eat badly and feel sleepy though.

It’s self inflicted, I was just agreeing with op

Edit: I don’t know it could be because of high sugars if I were already very higher prior to eating, I suspect it’s related to something else but have never tested to find out. It seems unlikely if I have no awareness of having a bg of 20 that I would feel sleepy if I went higher but I don’t really know

This happened to me once immediately prior to being diagnosed. I had lunch, sat down to watch a TV show, and went out like a light, waking up when it had finished. It was liked I'd been drugged. I can only compare it to being given a general anaesthetic in hospital. I was out in seconds. Since reducing my BG levels I have not have a problem.

I'm a newbie... but this would explain why after a corporate buffet I felt like passing out in the afternoon. This is what made me go to the GP actually. It scared me because I had to fight with myself to stay with it. At the time I thought I was going to pass out.

On a better note... It was an amazing spread. Moving forward... I am learning all about carbs and will avoid the sandwich buffet from now on.

I do, but only in the evenings ( doesn't matter what I eat) but I have never slept well, so I think the tiredness catches up with me then. I hope you can find something that helps you out and can stimulate you,
Take care.

Thanks for the replies. I am trying to cut down on the carbs, didn't think they made you sleepy though, that's interesting to know. I need to lose weight, so hopefully that will help eventually too.

Just wanted to know it wasn't only me needing an afternoon siesta. Makes me feel like I'm being lazy when I am so exhausted for no particular reason. Will mention it next week when I go for my review.
