Hiiiiiiiiii,

I know i shouldn't butttt i smoke :(

BUT..

i want to quit :D

A few girls where i work have been smoke free for about 5/6 weeks now, using champix.

And i would like to give it a go, i've tried cold turkey with no aids. i've tried patches, gum etc. only ever lasted a few days though..

Sooo my question is, if i use champix is there anything i should be aware of that could affect my diabetes?

Will stopping smoking affect my BG's? lower higher?

I'm aware smoking supresses your appetite so i'm aware i may want to gnaw my own hand off

Spanks :)

I managed it by using an electronic cig, brill, as you can vary the nicotine strength and it steams, so you inhale like a normal cig and every thing, you can use it in pubs etc, so shows ts harmless ? the nicotine. i ended up smoking it but just inhaling vapour, now only on gum. I found it BRILL as it fullfills the normal functions of a real cig, hands etc.

good luck. if need be pm your e-mail and i will e-mail a link, (dont know how to do it on here

Hey, thought I would post on this one. I smoke still - very naughty I know! But did try to give up about a year ago. Champix are amazing for subsiding cravings, keep a bottle of water with you and some chewing gum and you're away. The only problem I had with them (hence the still smoking) was that they made me violently sick about an hour after taking them. I've never known anything like it in my life. Although having said that I do know people who have taken them and successfully given up without the vomiting. Guess it's just an individual thing!

Talking about problems, I gave up smoking using Nicorette gum but it had the unfortunate and antisocial effect of giving me hiccups during and after chewing them  In spite of that I persevered and successfully gave up and haven't even had one puff since. A way to save lots of money. :)

I've heard they can have many side affects but i'm willing to try them and i'll stop if i experience anything like being sick YAK!

Did you experience any change in BG levels whilst taking them?

I'm very jealous you managed to quit with gum!! haha. very strange it gave you hiccups?!

I plan to put away the money i would have spent on cigarettes when i quit for a year, then at the end see how much i've got and probably buy myself something pretty!

I forgot to say that although I quit with gum, the most important thing I had was a very strong desire to give up. I was trying to save my teeth :)

My levels did go a bit doo-lalley as it were but I think that was more to do with being sick rather than the tablets. I'd definitely recommend giving them a go and I hope you have a good experience and stay smoke free!

Ahh, i could understand that!

Thanks

Totally agree with Daisy. I gave up over 20 years ago when I fell pregnant. Just stopped and never started again. Try and get your mind set right and I believe it makes it easier.
