Snacks Between Meals


I don't buy the ones in jars , buy the fresh ones from the deli counter, or the small plastic pots in the salad isles , the ones in jars aren't for me either
 
Kate.. Thought it was just me!! Who buys all these jars of olives then??? Somebody must!!
I get olives from the chilled secrion in waitrose in the plastic pots. Tried some from lidls in plastic pots and there was a huge difference.. Both in price and taste. Just finding that we spend £12 a week just on olives and avocado at the moment. That's a lot of money on just two items-and only for two people!!
 
I buy jars of black olives to use in cooking. I can't be the only one! Green ones in plastic tubs nicer for eating on their own.
 
Thnx Mongolia... What foods do you cook with olives.. I ought to look at doing that more. Why do you use black ones for cooking- is there a difference in taste?

I tend to put olives into Italian type dishes eg

They go well with things with a tomato type sauce, goats cheese or tuna.

I find that black olives are saltier and have a more definite flavour so go better in food rather than eating alone, though I do still enjoy them as a snack or in a salad. Green ones I find have a creamier texture and milder flavour.

I make a point of never eating meals between snacks. But then I am just a very highly health-conscious type-a-guy.
 
Kalamata olives are the best, get from the deli, not a jar.
 
Whats the difference though between deli and jars? Ineat deli ones.. What are they putting in to jars that makes them have longer sell by dates and no one seems to eat them from jars? I just wondered if there was a cheaper just as good option as £11/12 a week is quite a lot of money just for olives and avocado's!! Healthy foods are definitely not so cheap as junk foods!! Always though that, but A+O's alone are proving that....
 
My 3 year old snacks on olives in pots or deli. The jar ones are in a sort of brine that's really salty and defeats the purpose of being a healthy snack! The pot olives are usually in a dressing of some sort and they're stuffed too. We found Tesco pots are saltier than Sainsbury even though they're in a dressing! Best to try a few out!
 
The one's in jars are mass produced and don't seem to taste as good
 
Can't wait to finish this Newcastle Diet in a couple of weeks. First thing on the shopping list will be trying green olives.
 
I buy olives at the olive bar in my local grocery store. They taste so much better than the jarred olives.

I buy Delallo Jubilee Medley which are oily, salty, and briny...the best of all worlds. I do find them a bit addictive though, so I have to portion them out.
 
Couldn't wait so bought some yesterday. My local Asda is quite small and they only had jars so I bought them and thought they were quite good. Another tasty snack alternative to my pork scratchings
 
I love a good fresh olive, but normally buy crespo jars of green olives as its a lot cheaper than fresh. Fab with salad or any tomato sauces

I get mine from Tesco Deli counter, they don't give them away but normally have some reduced day of sale ones, which are better value by some.... you get to pick your own, so I go for the non-chilli ones. They have one with brined garlic and capers... yum yum... not too worried about colour.... and prefer without pips as they can sort my fillings out pretty quick....
 
hi im reading all what can I snack on but please can someone tell me what I allowed to eat and what I not allowed to eat im type 2 and new to insulinim just getting so confused with it all like what can I have for breakfast as all cereals seem to contain suger please help would be so gratfull thank u
