Snow day

its a snow day for my school
Today
Mrs h-c works at a Primary School and she has had the occasional snow day - we're down south, so it doesn't happen very often. Apart from all the Health and Safety stuff, like slippery paths and psychopathic snowball fights, the main reason the school has to close is because most of the teachers live several miles away and can't get to work. Almost all of the kids live within walking distance, as does Mrs h-c, which means she sometimes has to go in to tell pupils that the school's shut and that they have to go home. Luckily it happens less nowadays, because they just put a message up on the school website and most parents check it before setting off, or listen to local radio, if the weather looks at all iffy.

In some Scandinavian countries, they have "Sunshine Days" - if it looks like a nice day, you can phone in and say that you're taking one of your sunshine days and won't be in, Before everyone gets too excited, I think it's limited to a couple of days a year, or some such, but it's based on the premise that you don't necessarily get loads of sunshine in Scandinavia, so you have to grab it when you can. :)
