So confused!

I was hoping someone can help me please. I recently had a glucose blood test, this was part of a health check through private medical insurance. It was 3.3 mol/L this was about an hour and a half after eating breakfast, which was some toast.

I have PCOS which I believe is insulin resistance type, but my doctor refuses to do an insulin assay test. I’ve had a HbAIc blood test which was 31 mmol/mol and told to watch my carbohydrate intake, but now this health check has flagged up this glucose reading. I’m so confused, do I have diabetes or insulin resistance, or was the reading a one off? Any advice would be really appreciated! Thanks

Your HbA1c and the 3.3 (which might've been flagged because it was slightly low, but that's fine when you're healthy and unmedicated) don't indicate diabetes nor prediabetes. With PCOS you're likely to develop insulin resistance eventually, so it is worth it to check regularly and maybe keep mindful of your carbohydrate intake to maybe avoid it entirely. But for the moment, you're 100% a-okay, and maybe will remain that way indefinitely, who knows. Not that we can diagnose on here, but... Your numbers are looking good. Keep getting checked every year or so with a HbA1c to keep an eye on things. Should you ever go up, just cut carbs some and it'll bring your numbers back down.

For now, just breathe. You're okay.

Thank you! I still don’t quite understand, as I took my fasting blood this morning which was 5.0 and then and hour and a half later (when I’d eaten a couple of pieces of toast) and it was lower! At 4.7, shouldn’t it have gone up as I’d eaten. Maybe I’m not eating enough?

It just means your body deals well with the food!

It means you are in perfect working order

Most of us on here can only dream, and be envious of numbers like yours. We cannot diagnose, but my own personal opinion is YOU ARE PERFECTLY OK.
