Hi
I have been trying really hard since being diagnosed 17 days ago, i have lost 10lb (another 5 to go)

testing almost everyday, i eat about 30g of bran flakes for my breakfast and half bannana each morning and after 2 weeks of testing after 2 hours it goes back to to 7.7...but today it went up to 10.8  i was horrified, tested another hour after 9.3, after 4 hours back down to 7.3.

although i am fine today i do feel a little off, not sure how to explain really, just achey joints, sweaty and whilst talking to someone i could not get my words out right, (these are some of the pints i orignally went to the Gps with)

i put of my lunch till it went down then had 1 slice of burgen bread, with chicken, cucumber and tomatoes, i usually find this fine ,

why cant i get it right!! i am trying so hard not to let this get to me and feel rpoud of the weight loss
just wish i could get my bloods right

sorry for moaning but really confused today

xx

Keep it up - well done on the weight loss. Im sure you will get the numbers down. For me im 6 weeks diagnosed and just now noticed a bigger drop than the first 2-3 weeks. Also i have some days when its higher for unknown reason i think (no evidence) its because of things like amount of sleep and mood etc

Hi Bazza,

it can be so confusing can't it?!!
i think this is the only thing that will make me lose weight, i just feel a little unwell today not sure if its the diabetes or not, hence the high reading,

thanx for you reply at least we can learn together eh?

well i thought i had the rest of today sussed....WRONG!

my lunch didnt have much effect on my bg, so for dinner i thought i would be extra healthy,

dry fried minced beef even sieved and with boilng water half way through to get rid of extra fat,

added mushroom, peppers, onion and garlic, and a tiny bit of bisto granules

boiled new potatoes not too many or so i thought!! and broccoli and cauli,

1 hour later my sugars was 11.2!!!!

i didnt have a big portion either..i will check it again at 2 hours..i am sooo shocked...anyone got any ideas please? x

are you sure your not coming down with a cold or something illness can make make your bg rise.

Just when you think you've cracked it, something turns around and proves you wrong!!
Are you of an age to be having periods? The monthly cycle may vary your responses to foods sometimes (does a bit with me).
It could be something you are coming down with though. I had a couple of days early last week where my levels were acting strangely and then suddenly over the last week I have been suffering from a bad throat and chesty cough. My levels during this have been totally random and I have given up trying to keep them down. I can get fasting levels of 4 to 5.5 no problem but the moment I eat anything for my evening meal (and I mean anything, even a plain chicken salad) I shoot up to anywhere from 9 to 12...well bizarre. This usually takes quite a time to come back down to reasonable level during the evening but by morning I am back to 5 to 6.5 again!! All very strange.
Keep an eye on things and let us know what happens.
Hope this helps.
Angie

thanx angie it helps a lot...i'm so new to this...its all confusing

i'm 50 and still have a monthy cycle, i feel fine now just early today felt a little off, not sure why,
how do you cope with your numbers being so high after you eat?!!! that must be so frustrating!!

my morning sugars are 6.5 to 7.8!!

it always seems to be towards the end of the day my reading go up!!

its hard trying to lose weight and watching my sugars at the same time..guess i'll keep trying

thanx again angie x

I knew that illness can disrupt your figures, one of my workmates is type 2 (has been a year or so longer than me) and he had a cold a few months back and said he was struggling.
I was diagnosed last November and this is my first illness with diabetes. The first few days I felt a bit upset that my levels were getting so high. I usually do my best to come in under 8.5 two hours after my evening meal so it was not usual since I was eating the same foods. Now a week down the line I have got the hang of what the levels seem to do and I hope one of these days I will be better and normality will resume.
If I eat my evening meal and test at 2 hours my level will be about 9 to 10 regardless of what I eat, then after another hour they will go up slightly more to 9.5 to 12 and then slowly start coming down again. This is not normal.
I usually try and get about 6.5 to 7.5 after the meal and then if it is less than 6.5 and I'm not getting up real early the next morning I may have a biscuit or a couple of pieces of dark chocolate for supper so I get a good reading the next morning.
It is all very much a learning curve and some days you think it is all to much and you can't cope anymore but then you find something different that you haven't tried before that is real nice and doesn't affect you and all is right with the world again.
Keep learning, testing and asking questions....they are wonderful on here with a wealth of knowledge and experience. I find the advice on here a lifeline at times!!

Angie

Angie what kind of biscuits do you have? i also have a couple of pieces of dark choc at night ...i think it helps me feel normal lol...although i never really like dark always prefered milk chocolate, but now i find dark is better than none and dont need much of it to feel satisified,

well i guess its back to the drawing board tomorrow

thanks for replying x

I eat Cheddars sometimes if I need a low carb snack. They are only about 1.9g per biscuit....BUT very addictive!! Found a new flavour one the other week....Pickle, just a bit different.
Nairns Oatcakes are quite filling and about 4.something g per biscuit. Although the cheese flavour ones are slightly lower (I've got some Cheese ones but haven't tried them yet).
In the absence of these Water Biscuits or Rich Tea I find are ok.
But all need to be limited, I usually stick to a one or two at a time. Although with the Cheddars I have had four at a time on odd occassions.

It all boils down to trial and error. Some things that you think will spike you may not and the seemingly innocent stuff bites you back!!
Keep learning, it does get easier.
Regards
Angie

ps. ex-milk chocolate addict too!!

Hang in there Roxy, 10lb in 17 days is amazing, but remember what I said earlier, dont try and do it all at once and relax it wont happen overnight and it doesnt have to

Hi. have read angies n roxys threads and am wondering what meds you are taking? am 49yrs had full menapause etc, and find if my BS go way high joints n feet neuropathy become very painful. or am cooking up an infection. Most morns am 8.6 to 11.6 during the day am 11.6 to 18.9 and on a bad day get up to mid 20's follow a tight low carb n small portion size regime testing 2-4hrs after eating lite bite meals twice daily. totally struggle with breakfast at all as its an ingrained habit from childhood never could or still can eat till 11am . Thou at 9pm I like 4 crackers with cottage cheese with sliced tomato on [ love tomatoes!] as a supper. some nights am low at 11.6 others am mid - late teens. Everyday is a balancing platform trying to find what does or dosent spike or suit !!! Anna.

i hope someone moore experienced with diabetes comes along and gives you advice

hi i would try anlother breakfast as branflakes and a banana would shoot me thru the roof. I start the morning with bgs around 4.4 to 5.2 in the morning and after breakfast 1hour reading is 5.8 2 hour reading 5.2 and by the third hour im needing a apple because im low again. i have 30g of lizis granola 12g of mixed sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds, handful of mixed nuts (brazils hazelnuts and walnuts 1.99 in a bag at asda) a teaspoon of flaxseed and strawberrys. i have had this breakfast everymorning since i was diagnosed and although it is boring every morning its filling and is the only thing other than eggs and bacon. because of the fat content the granola wont hit your bgs so hard in the first hour. try it . Also if i have a slice of burgen bread before i go to bed i always wake in the morning low- the same with 85% chocolate. But if i have a few chunks of dairy milk i will wake in the morning about .5 higher

thanx so much for your advice

i had a little too much dark choc last night and my bs was 6.0 this morning...lowest morning 1 since testing? i dont get how that wroks to be honest??? but i am new to it all

had porridge with bluberries for breakfast....i didnt like the blueberries yuk!!

how big are the bags of nuts you get from asda? because the small ones are expencive if you have them each morning,

thanx again xx

there about £2 a bag and i go thru 3 a week. it my seem expensive but i think back on what i used to spend on mc donalds and pure **** which got me into this mess. i normally spend about 50 every 2 months on flaxseed pumpkin and sunflower seeds. holland and barret normally have a deal going . i also buy 10 of the aldi 85% dark chocolate which gives you 5 bars per packet. i find if you have a bar rather than a slab you dont seem to pick at. i think its because in your head you think my ive had 2 bars today the same as 4 chunks but you feel a bit of a pig.

very true, now you put it that way!!

can i ask what make are the pumpkin seeds and the others you have ..called and do you just have them on your breakfast?

thanx x

it doesnt matter about the brand. all i do is add a 500g bag of both into a cereal container tupper wear thingy add a small packet of flaked almonds and there you have your sprinkle. just weigh out 10g into the scales nice as a snack , i also have this with greek total 100% yogurt. that same mix also lets me get away with weetabix. dont over indulge asthe fat content will be high but as im trying to add my weight their ok andd most of the fat are the good fats but be careful with the brazils youll put on overnight
