hello
my dsn has written off for the funding for my son to be able to get the pump with backing from our consultant, so just wondering how long does it take to get a response and then assuming u get a yes how long does it take to get the pump from there, im so excited to have got to this point but was hoping the next bit would be quick can anyone tell me roughly
thanks

Hi

The funding application has to be done by a D consultant as far as I am aware ( I dont think a dsn can do it). Some hospitals apply for pump funding in batches of people rather than an individual.

I think you will most likely need to wait for about 3 months to allow yr consultant to apply and for a response from the PCT to be made and for you then to decide which pump you like.

Our DSN filled in all the forms and did the application for us. She said to expect about 2 mths wait, it's been a month and the pump has arrived! She did seem surprised it happened that quickly so I think 2 mths is about how long you should expect. Obviously different clinics might do things differently though, best bet is to ask and see what your nurse says. Good luck, I hope it comes quickly for you :)

i only asked because the nurse said it would be soon and that doesnt mean alot im getting so excited and dont want to pester her about it i know i should be patient but we asked for one in may and have been struggling for the 4+ years since diagnosis that i just want my little boy back.
our clinic used to do it in groups but they have just changed it for person by person basis and our dsn said she cant see anybody on her list that needs a pump more than dylan so shes really pushing for it now she wrote the actual letter for the pct but the consultant signed it too giving his backing which the dsn said u really need to get approved so im keeping everything crossed

Hi, mine, in Coventry - ordered by clinic, took about 2 months to arrive from me saying I wanted one. It actually came a month early in the end.

So don't be surprised if you end up waiting 3 months in the end.

The wait is worth it however!

thanku for the replies
was hoping it might be quicker than that being as she said soon but maybe i was being to optimistic about it we first asked for one in may so feels like we have been waiting ages for one already but then i read posts and people fight for years for them so i guess in that case we havent been waiting all that long lol just hard when u see ur son rolling on the floor in pain cos hes suffering from reall y bad highs and lows with bad headaches etc
