So came home from work last night was 4.5 at 9pm

Ate
1 and half homemade turkey burgers (i found a great recipe if anyone wants it)
2 rashers bacon
lots of mushrooms
lots of lettuce
1 Large wholemeal bap

Finished meal at 9.30pm

I was worried the Bap would give me a high reading but at 10.30pm i was 7.5 and then at 11.30pm i was 4.9

So that would be ok wouldnt it?, i think if i limit my carbs intake to something like this per meal im ok? Do you think that was lot of food? im only 10stone though. Actually ive lost about half stone since been on metformin

Re: So Large Wholeweat bap test

Sounds good. I'd like your turkey burger recipe. Carbs are supposed to not be as bad if you have plenty of protein with them - which it sounds like you did.

Looks fine to me Bazza! Just remember to grill your food as opposed to frying as it reduces the saturated fat content significantly.

Sounds good to me Bazza, I just wish I could eat a wholemeal bap But I would if I got those nuimbers

I eat out at a Mexican restaurant sometimes and have burger and chips, and what I do is just eat a few chips and the bottom of the bun and that seems OK for me

I watched one of those chef challenges on TV last week and one of the chefs made burgers with mushrooms as the bun, I thought I might try that some time, looked the business.

Found this pic on the web, not the one I saw cooked but gives the idea.

The other day i used Lettuce as the bap was still very nice actually! heres a picture i took.

Anyway what i do is use this for 2 burgers (it makes 2 very large ones!)

250g turkey mince
quater pint glass of very chopped up onions
about (very roughly) quarter pint glass of pre grated mozzorella cheese
half tsp soy sauce
8th tsp salt
half tsp ground black pepper
quarter tsp garlic powder
quarter tsp parsley
half tsp horseradish

mix them all in large bowl and make into 2 burgers
place on sheet of foil on top of your grill

yum yum

I'm really loving the big mushrooms instead of burger bun idea, that'll be one of my meals this week

I have uses the big mushroom idea before Sid and they are great! I know you use carbs similar to me so a nice idea my hubby does is finish off the top mushrrom with a sprinkling of burgen breadcrumbs tossed in a little melted butter then grills for a further minute - give a nice crunch

Love using letuce as a wrap too - often have it at the chinese with the crispy duck rather than the pancakes - Your turkey burger looks great Bazza!

Bazza
that looks lovely, youve made me hungry now

Tried the mushroom burger bun idea last night and it was delish

The ultimate TV diner, a bacon and cheese burger, with a glass of Merlot, I will be having one of these again.

Oh, and I didnt eat all the chips honest

Had one of these burgers yesterday for lunch. So very tasty. No bread, unfortunately, but the burger itself was worthy of being eaten alone. I'm going to try it with different types of mince too - except beef as I'm allergic to beef (sob)

Thanks for the recipe

Cheers

I've also seen those big flat mushrooms used like a pizza base, topped with pizza sauce and cheese etc. Haven't tried it myself yet though...it looks yummy!

I love Stilton Nigel but if I buy a lump I end up eating it every night with crackers and my weight starts to creep up.

Not fair

Hi, anyone tried lettuce parcels with tinnny diced chicken peas cubed carrots sweetcorn n baby button mushrooms [just remember to really chop it all tiny] so yummy n low carb with proteins n tasty too! I do myself 4 lettuce leaves with the veg n chicken tucked inside! Now I've put it on here am making it myself tonight am in the mood..... Anna.x

I have my stilton (or equivalent) with rye crispbread

If you break it in half it's a similar taking to 2 crackers

I miss out the butter/margarine (only use butter for cooking -don't use margarine at all)

Carbs are 7-8g and the fibre content is probably 10+ times more than you'd get with Jacob's style cream crackers.

When I have cheese n biscuites I have Jacobs high fibre cream crackers which are 4.4g carbs per biscuit, but the problem I have is the cheese makes me put on weight, if I could have it just occasionally I'd be all right but if theres Stilton in the fridge its every night

Mmmm I know what you mean Sid! I bought a small piece of Stilton last weekend and had it in a sandwich with onions on Saturday night, by Sunday it was gone but I don't care as I haven't had any since April!

p.s.... it goes well with oat crackers too.....

Are you finding your losing weight too? Since i was diagnosed 6 weeks ago with type 2 ive gone from about 10st 9 to 10st. I dont want to lose much more. Its obviously the small amount of carbs thats doing it but i intent to keep the sugar levels right down,

Sorry to hear that Sid. I do similar things with stuff like peanut butter. A jar I bought recently only lasted 4 days. :?
