Type 1 So why no ketones

So I suffer from mental health. Only been a type one for just over a year.
For over a month and a bit I've not touched my insulin but I never get ketones on high numbers.

Did dafne in Feb and the nurse didn't get why i didn't have ketones she could see i didn't take any insulin. At a point she even questioned me asking me if I was sure to be a type 1. And yes she went away and confirmed again that I was. So why do I not produce them

Hi @Diabetes1elmo93 , and welcome to the forum!

Ketones are formed when there's not enough insulin in your body. Being relatively newly diagnosed it may well be you still make enough of your own insulin to prevent ketoacidosis. During this 'honeymoon period' we still make some insulin, and that period can last quite a long time in people who were diagnosed as adults.

That said, even without ketones, high blood glucose isn't good for our bodies, and it also makes many of us feel depressed or otherwise not well, psychologically.
Can you get some help with starting to take your insulin again?

All the best!

I’m the same I’m classed type 1 and can go weeks without insulin have numbers over 30 and still no keytones..

Speaking to a consultant the reason is that I’m still producing a tiny little bit of insulin my latest cpeptide test showed a level of 60 the level to be classed type 1 is 600 apparently

It was explained that even the smallest amount of insulin can prevent keytones

Hi guys,

High BGs (I must stress.) are not ideal. They certainly won't help the body's ability to heal or emotional well being..

However, low or non existent keytones (even with elevated BGs .) could be bacause the body hasn't started to burn fat.?
Small amounts of insulin may well be helping some BG power the body, not needing to raid the fat reserves yet..

Someone please correct me if I have this wrong..
