SOCKS AND SHOES

I am a type 2 diabetic, and I am looking for some good socks and shoes to help my feet.
My gp has advised me to get better foot ware, after a slight foot problem under my big toe, which seems to be rubbing and causing a problem.
Can anyone advise me on a good make of socks, to help my circulation,that I can also ware in bed.
And soft type shoe for every day walking.
 
My diabetes hasn't affected my feet, but I have Morton's feet, which is a genetic shape variation and can cause problems. I now wear toe socks or running socks most of the winter. As I spend so much time at the gym, I live in trainers, but my "best" shoes are Clarks lace-ups. I've also found M&S Footgloves to fit well and be comfortable.
For something more stylish, I have a pair of Dance teacher's shoes which have outdoor soles put on them. These too lace, but make good trouser shoes. In Summer, I only wear sandals. the difficulty comes if I'm going somewhere formal and need to wear stockings. I wear hold-ups, but not tights, which pull on my toes. I do have some stylish boots, but finding a pair to fit, is a case of trying on.

Hello Laura.

Try either a good market for diabetic socks [ far cheaper ] I have found ...
They have thermal ones at various warmth factors, elastic free ones looser around the ankles etc,
seam free ones, even bed sock choices too at my home town market :thumbup:

You can consider looking at CosyToes/shoes or even Hotters shoes as they have a good range and choice of walking shoes.
I find its really worth it - to spend extra - on footwear as your feet carry you around .

Treat them to the best that you can :thumbup:

With your problem 'under' your big toe - look at diabetic insoles ?
There ARE these available - have seen them on ebay ...
Maybe try a pair inside of your new footwear ?
Ask your GP if this would be suitable first though .

Have you seen a podiatrist for a diabetic foot screen yet?
As a diabetic - you are entitled to a yearly diabetic foot screen .
Ask your GP about this - if you havent had one done .

Try and purchase non elasticated socks if you can as these help with circulation, they are often known as Softop socks and retail for around £4 a pair.
 
I know how miserable uncomfortable shoes can be. I get mine from Hotter, they're not too bad style wise and most of them come in a wider fit and a good range of colours as well.
 
Another vote for hotter shoes... been using them way before diabetes. Perfect for long school runs, and walking the dog.

I also like fly-flots for sandals

And for boots I cant find anything better fitting than DUO boots - which come in an almost made to measure for calf fittings (30cm-50cm)

Fly-flots :clap: Definetly for ME ...
They have an anatomic foot moulding shock absorbing insole inside them .
Amazingly comfort factor for my poor toots!
I live in these - have about 7 pairs of these .
[bought 2 pair with my xmas money :thumbup: ]
Prefer the leather mules in these...
Wear in house - quick nip to shop in car too .
Hotters for a good 'walking shoe' though .

Flyflots, Pavers, Skechers, Gla-Gla, Crocs ... love em all :lol:
 


Yep I wear my fly flots as "slippers" in the house too! So pleased someone else knows about fly flots, as most folk who ask have never heard of them!
 
Hotters and trainer socks for me. Trainer socks don't affect circulation in the leg.
