does anyone know if the solostar pens comes in half units.our daughter takes either 22 to 23 units and we think she needs 22 1/2 units.her bloods go high on 22 but low on 23 and last week she woke up in a hypo at 3.4 we followed the nurses advice keep her on 23 for 3 days but she woke up in a hypo.we will be speaking to the nurses just wondered if anyone knows if the pen comes in half units.

Have checked with the BNF and apparently they only come in one unit increments. Maybe a dietary adjustment is needed instead to compensate.

The only other pen is the Optiset with 2 unit dosage increments.

Hi Sophsmum,
My son has a humapen luxura by Lilly, which does 1/2 units, his is for use with humalog 3ml cartridges. I don't know of any basal insulins that come in cartridge form as ours have always been prefilled disposable pens. Hope this is of some help, or i would do as Ken suggests and give a higher carb snack before bedtime. If she usually has eg 20g carbs before bed try adding a glass of milk or a larger portion. I understand how difficult it is, i have a 10yr old son, sometimes before bed their just not hungry or the opposite as with my son, he'll eat a happily eat the contents of the fridge.
Hope this is of some help.
Take care and good luck,
Suzi x

Her blood sugar before supper were 13.2 last night so she had a piece of fruit and a glass of milk.and woke up this morning blood sugar of 4.1 so tonight she'll be back on 22 till her blood sugar rises and she needs 23 again.but she is going though puberty at the moment so that won't be helping her blood sugars.
thanks for the advice

Puberty is a real problem for diabetes control. Increasing the frequency of testing and using correction doses might be a help.
If testing is making fingers sore, ask your healthcare team about alternative site testing. Most meters will allow it and unless the Bg is changing rapidly, it's usually pretty accurate.
