Hi everyone

I have been in soluble metformin hydrochloride (Glucophage) for the last 10 years but recently I haven't been able to get it. I am unable to swallow tablets so cannot get tablets. Has anyone else had problems getting this? I have been told the company who made it doesn't make it anymore. Does anyone know if there is another soluble alternative?

Thank you in advance.

Hi my husband takes liquid metformin although we had trouble getting it on prescription because of the cost . I had to push for him to get it as he now has a problem swallowing pills .

Just an 'out of the box' thought - as the standard Metformin tablets aren't coated, might you be able to crush them and mix with some yoghurt, or cream cheese etc to become easier to swallow?

You'd need a pestle & mortar, or a clean 'hammer' as they're quite hard to bash into bits, I would imagine.

[Edit] I've just tried crushing a Metformin 500 mgs tablet with a Garlic press!!! It actually worked well, I have to say. I'll take it after my tea, mixed with some Philladelphia cream cheese, rather than waste it LOL
