I have been diabetic for nearly 10 yrs, am on 320mg glicazide, 1500 metformin and 20mg lisinopril. I low carb and try not to eat more than 100grms a day, which I know is lowish but not vlc. Both blood pressure and cholesterol level excellent, no diabetic complications so far.
I have to adnmit, I have had bad control for about a year until Jan of this year when I got myself back on track. My doctor has been making noises about insulin injections, she thinks I am probably LADA.She is supportive of a low carb diet but is very firmly in the camp that diabetes is inevitably a progressive disease.
The past two weeks despite taking my medication and sticking to a sensible diet (my treat is a small chocolate bar on Saturdays and that's it), my BS particularly after meals seems to be rising.
For example, this morning, all I had at 8.30 was an egg on a slice of low carb bread and a coffee and as we speak my BS is 14
I feel quite hot and a bit dizzy and also very depressed - this is not a natural state for me, it definitely ties in with my high BS
I am very reluctant to inject, not because I am scared of needles or anything but more to do with going hypo, having to experiment with getting the right sort of insulin, feeling ill while I experiment etc
Like all of us I have a busy life, since my boss left I am having to do her job as well as my own, I have probs with my elderly father, as well as the daily round of cooking, shopping etc. Coping with a new medication would seem yet another problem !
I would find it helpful if someone has had the same experience could share it with me.
Also friends on this forum who have started on insulin, maybe they could reassure me that it has been a positive experience
Many thanks for listening and thanks to everyone on the forum for being here, also sorry to whinge,
