I just want to ask some noob questions, they mostly relate to injecting and type 1 stuff so here we go:

1) is it unusual to have one place on your belly hurt when you put the needle in but if you shift it even 1cm then it doenst ? And it seems to hurt less if you pinch it too ?

2) how quickly do you go through a sharps bin say 4 lancets and 4 needles a day ? mine seems to have been filled in about 3 weeks if not less

3) When exactly do I use glucagon. It is on my perscripton. I know its a hormone that makes extra glucose or something. Is it incase of an extreme hypo ? Do I have to carry it everywhere with me ?

4) Sometimes I feel a slight pain in my side, like an ache on my left side its been. I remember having it while in hospital and though it was due to the insulin. is it a side effect of the insulin or should i get my kidneys checked ?

Hi Joe,

Question 1) No, it happens to me all the time.

Question 2) I fill one every 4-6 weeks, i do not use as many lancets as you.

Question 3) Glocagon is used when you become unconscious through a rapid drop in your blood glucose (hypo, can be below 2.0mmol/lt, or higher in some people) It is not designed to be used to give your blood a quick boost just when you get a little low, use a glucose tablet or something sweeter for that.
Train someone you live or work with, to administer the injection, best place is top of your leg. Look in the kit (small orange box) for full instructions on usage.

just a side note. before you become unconscious, tell people who know you are type 1, not to try to give you anything sweet (glucose tablet etc) orally, as this could cause you to choke, only use the glocagon kit for this.

Question 4) I have no idea if this is caused by diabetes.

My daughter finds the tummy to painful altogether so she does hers in top of leg.

Sharps bins - You can ask for different sizes. I have a small one that fits in the glove compartment of the car. And a slightly bigger one for at home. The school order ones that are slightly bigger again. It just means they don't have to arrange collection so regularly.
