I’ve been monitoring my BG since the day I was diagnosed. Usually my BG is higher in the morning when I wake up and of course after breaksfast but it decreases around noon (80-99 mg/dL, 4.4-5.5 mmol/L range). However today when I checked I had 125 mg/dL (6.9 mmol/L) which I find really odd because I had breakfast at 7am and didn’t eat anything after that except for a cup of coffee (no sugar) with a bit of milk (maybe a teaspoon) at 11am. I also didn’t eat anything that I hadn’t before but the usual in the same amounts at breakfast. Could it have been the milk even in such a small amount? I’m worried.

Nothing to worry about. Several possible explanations:
  • You had some sort of contaminant on your finger.
  • perhaps you are coming down with a cold or have a very slight infection that you will hardly notice.
  • Dodgy test strip.
  • it was a long time since breakfast and your body pumped out a bit of extra sugar
Keep monitoring and carry on keeping a record of what you eat and when. If patterns develop, follow up as appropriate, but don't worry about the odd odd one.

A splash of milk is not going to send you hyper. Our bodys are not automatons, insulin and glucose responses vary throughout the day and night so one unexpected higher level can be put down to 'just one of those things'. Keep recording and as has been said look for trends.

Tested twice to confirm the result. Forgot to mention that I went to the shopping mall on foot (a 10 min walk from home) and it's hot outside. My anxiety just went through the roof when I looked at the glucose meter.

There are many things which can affect our BG - food, exercise, stress, illness, time of day, month, year, weather, temperature, drugs, ....
Because of this, I try not to jump to conclusions based on a sample of one - I look for trends.
If this turns out to be a one-off, put it down to your body/finger/meter having a funny turn.
If it happens again, you can look for similarities with today's experience.

That could very well be the reason. Make a note of it in your diary.
