HI all

I have been type 2 for some 6 years now. Since diagnosis I have been on one 30mg glilazide a day, the two a day, then one gliclazide with 1 x 500g metformin until I ended up about 18 moths ago on two 30mg gliclazide a day with two 850g metformin, one in morning one in evening after meals, also take blood pressure tablets (two types) and simvastatin. My problem is that with careful intake of food I could control my bloods down to somewhere between 5.5 and 6.5 in the morning but over the last two or three months this has now increased to somewhere nearer 9.0 at the same time in the morning. A typical day yesterday was an egg for breakfast with a rasher of bacon, a small piece of cheese and a fresh tomato for lunch and some savoury rice, burger and tinned tomato for dinner. Not a great deal, with a couple of glasses of wine. where is it going wrong

Can only say what would be the problem for me with your menu would be and that would be the savoury rice, the bread with the burger (if you had any) and the tomatoes (fruit). Having wine would normally lower my morning BG but it not beneficial to me in the long run.
Since I no longer take any medication I really pay attention to what I do and don't eat.

If your BG has gone up without change of diet, has anything else changed in your life? are you walking a bit less or have you been ill? Maybe your body has just got used to the amount of carb that you eat and needs a 'jumpstart' maybe try reducing the carbs again for a while.

Thank you for all of your comments. I have had no lifestyle change in the last six months or so although I have been suffering from a cold/flu recently and the kids generally bring home a bug or two all the time. However, and in order to try to compensate for this, I have significantly reduced the amount of food that I am eating and in order to highlight this I had two Ryvita biscuits with a small piece of cheese for breakfast, two crackers for lunch and a very small portion for dinner. Bloods in the morning were 9.2. Maybe I am eating too little!!

My bloods before going to bed were 7.3 so liver dump is showing quite significantly.

I'm with clearviews on this. If I had crackers and ryvitas, even 1 of those biscuits, my bg would shoot up above 9 immediately ( believe me, I've tried!). I think I would try cutting the carbs right down, seeing what that did to my bg, then re-introducing a small amount a bit at a time. Don't know if any of the 'longer serving guys' are around to advise if your body can change it's reaction to carbs over time, as presumably your diet hasn't changed that much to get such an altered reaction :?:
