My son has a thirst he gets lightheaded pale clammy his blood sugars dip to 2.8 at worst. Can I also say at present is not diagnosed with diabetes or hypoglycaemic. His bloodstend to be low in the morning. One day after school he had just ate a small chocolate bar hula hoops and an apple fruitshoot his blood sugar was 3.8 after his evening meal it regulated and became 5.1. He complains of blurred vision headaches and when asked where does he hurt when he's crying he says everywhere I don't know what's wrong mummy. He goes from incredibly hungry to pushing food aside. Up to now he has not had high blood sugars just low my dad is diabetic. Mysons blood results came back mainly fine but one was low so gp referring to endocrinologist for further investigations. He also the other day for the first time ever wet the bed but he had had chocolate before bed and slept through where usually he wakes for the loo he got upset about that. He also has itchy scalp and sweats a lot during the night. I have been through straining eyes wear your glasses , are you being bullied?, is the work tohaard in school? Do you not like school? He just trying to get a day off school! But these symptoms have seem to have escalated and he actually enjoys school. I have heard however I don't know if its true you can get false results either way at least will see a specialist. I have also been looking at hypoglycaemia. I am at a loss it could I suppose just be a virus that has not showed its face yet and resolve on its own but there is a niggle within that says something just is not right has anyone else experienced this or help? Thank you to any who do.

Hi Sarah,

It must be a worrying time for you and your family. A mother's instinct is a powerful tool and you know your son better than anyone.
It is a good move that you are being referred to an Endocrinologist but it is the waiting that gets you down as things are not improving. When is your appointment? If there is a long wait then I suggest you go back to your G.P. in the interval if you are worried.

This article from DUK explains the symptoms of diabetes in children and may help.

An update on my son who is still suffering with symptoms. It was his cortisol that was low the endocrinologist gave him a short synthacen test and another fasting glucose. They are looking at Addison's disease and still debating uncontrolled diabetes however no medication given as of yet. He has now been further referred to another hospital and a professor in medicine. He has just had a alpha hydroprogesterone and immunoglobulin test to assist next hospital and rule out other ailments. Needless to say it is heartbreaking to see your 8yr old boy go through test after test and more so to see him suffer with hypos so often, if anyone at all knows of Addison's or the symptoms he gets what may be going on I would be grateful. Thank you
