Sooooo hungry! Normal...?

Hey peeps,
I'm following a low carb, high fat diet - which is keeping my blood sugars nice and stable - but am increasingly famished by the evening... I don't really understand why, as though my carbs are low between 30-50g a day, my calories are between 1,200 and 1,500 - and my fat is usually somewhere around 100g - shouldn't this be plenty to keep me feeling sustained...?

I would up my calories/fat a little - but when I did this a few weeks ago I started putting weight... So I've been sticking to the above ratios for about ten days, and lost the few pounds I put on - but super super hungry! I thought it would pass, but so far hasn't... Any ideas why I'm so hungry, or what to do, or whether to just ignore it and it will pass?

I'm type 1.5, bmi 22 - if that's helps...

usually with keto diets with the fat levels higher than usual that is normally enough to sate your appetite.

Could be your body is taking longer to get to ketosis?

Are you able to exersise at all? Any change of upping the fats gradually 150 or so calories a week while increasing your output?

I am producing ketones right now but after my carb up it takes an age for my hunger to drop away.

Could be I'm just greedy though I do like my food! :-)

Hope something in that might be of use.

Thanks Kendo... I'm defo in ketosis - have been for about a month... When I was eating more fats & calories I felt really energized and was running two or three times a week - but still put about 4lb... So about ten days ago I reduced the calories to about 1,500 and fats to about 100g - which has brought my weight back down but I'm also really low in energy and haven't felt up to a run so have just done power yoga instead... I also feel quite 'on edge' since lowering the calories / fat too... :-/
Is my body just adjusting...? Literally feel I could eat my arm...!

I can relate 200% to the eating your Own arm thing, empty really empty feeling inside.

How much protein are you eating? General advice is to go about 1:1 ratio of fat to protein

The above may help?

Hmm... Protein could be an issue... I was eating around 80g of protein a day - and my ideal for me is 80g protein per day (Lean body mass (ie weight minus body fat) x .8)

But now I'm hitting about 60g or less - because I don't eat meat or eggs or most dairy... I do eat fish, but can only eat that once a day max, and I use a pea protein powder twice a day in smoothies, plus some protein from nuts... Given that I can't eat typical 'vegetarian' protein sources, like legumes or quinoa as they spike my blood sugars, plus I'm allergic to soy (so tofu etc) then I'm a bit stuck on how to up my protein now... Any ideas? Do you think the lower protein could be making such a difference to my hunger levels...?

Re: Sooooo hungry! Normal...?

I wish I had the answer for you, I would see perhaps going half way back up to your fat levels while you were putting weight on?

Wish I could help more.

Did you look at the link I posted above? might help

Re: Sooooo hungry! Normal...?

I had a chance to look at it today - really interesting... Said I wasn't eating enough fat or protein - and that my overall calories should be higher!

Will try following its recommendations for a week and see what happens to my weight... Really helpful, thank you! :-)
