sore feet and a rash

I was diagnosed type2 recently and have been on metformin for a couple of months now . I originally suspected I had diabetes due to certain symptoms like being very thirsty , tired ; numb feet and a a small rash on my kneck. My nurse assured me that these symptoms would go once the tablets kicked in but I seem to be suffering even more. My feet although nor as numb are giving me quite a bit of pain they are like shooting stabbing pains and seem to be burning up. The rash seems to clear up then reaper regularly.Is there any medication anyone could recommend who has maybe similar problems. My doctor did precribe a lotion for the rash before he knew I had diabetes which never helped much. I have just been taking over the counter painkillers for mt feet when it gets bad but would like to try something stronger
