Hello,

I've had type 1 diabetes for nearly 15 years now and over the last 10 months I've had pain in my hands after doing repetitive stuff at work or at home. I'm not sure if I should contact the GP about this as I'm not sure they will be able to help or they will just push me to see someone else which is a waste of doctors time?

Anyone else had this problem? Can it be fixed? What did you do about it?

Your not wasting your Dr's time, you are in pain and they are there to diagnose and treat the condition.

not sure if this is relevant to your type of pain.

I suffer with duypetrens contracture -- which is where it is very painful to straighten out my fingers of my hands-- I have had 5 operations on 5 different fingers as well as cortisone injections.
( and Type 1's are prone to this condition )

I would definitely go to the GP though --
 
Hi Devon. I am type 1 25 years plus. I have pain in my hands elbows sometimes feet and other joints. But the pains started in my hands. Like you much worse after repetitive stuff. Painting driving writing etc. I do have carpel tunnel in one of my hands but been told it's mild. My pains are definitely not mild. Might be worth getting checked for carpel tunnel though.
 
Has your statin been ruled out for your symptoms?
 
Do get checked. I've had carpal tunnel in both. My practices wouldnt give cortisone injections because of diabetes..
I also now have de quervains tenosynovitis syndrome for about 10 weeks now.

Drs are quite used to hand problems and they certainly arent necessarily linked to diabetes as non diabetics get them too.
 
Have been advised no carpel tunnel or any diabetic related issues just repetitive use syndrome so am waiting for an appointment with physio who specialise in hand problems so will wait to hear from them.
