Hi have been type 1 for 15 years and have been getting pains in my heels only in the mornings, is this something to do with diabetes? any advice thanks, Hugh.
It could be down to many things, Diabetes being just one reason. Here is a list of some of the more common causes:
■being overweight
■constantly being on your feet, especially on a hard surface like concrete and wearing hard-soled footwear
■thinning or weakness of the fat pads of the heel
■injury to the bones or padding of the heel
■arthritis in the ankle or heel (subtalar) joint
■irritation of the nerves on the inner or outer sides of the heel
■fracture of the heel bone (calcaneum)
Diabetes linked pain can be down to Neuropathy. Neuropathy results in the loss of feeling in the feet and though sometimes foot pain can be felt, diabetic nerve damage lessens the ability to feel pain.
What I would suggest that you do is self refer to an NHS Podiatrist. at the very least discuss it with your own GP.
Hi, I don't know if having a pain in the heels has anything to do with diabetes.
But I have bad pain in my heels. It was diagnosed as plantar fasciitis which was caused by pronation of the foot. Now I have special insoles. You can never know what is wrong.
Just go to the doctor explain the problem and they will diagnose you or give you advice. Self diagnosis normally just leads into making things worse.
