Type of diabetes
Type 1
Hello all

I have been a type 1 diabetic for 15 years (I am 24 now), And have always struggled/not bothered with properly taking care of my illness.

Basically, I have been testing way more regularly and not eating so much **** this last 6 months or so. The complicated thing in my life is that I am a full time musician, and often go on tour for weeks/months at a time. I find this really tough to balance with my diabetes as it is hard to eat well (and regularly) on the road, and alcohol and other stuff comes too easy.

Anyone experienced something similar and have any tips?

I have to admit I'm newly diagnosed, at 28, but I never cooked (ate out all the time) and would have a drink at weekends-swap what you drink and test maybe? Wine, white spirits-or get the carb count for what you are drinking and add the insulin, just watch for lows the following day, and you are supposed to stop 2 hours before bed (although I admit I don't, tut tut I know).
In terms of food-do you carb count? If so just go to chain restaurants/pubs, where you can find the nutritional info online, or something with a packet and that info on-hell even if it's a macdonalds or something you can find out the carbs online. I went to a hungry horse yesterday and had a mixed grill-I have been low carbing but it was a treat lol.
I've cut down to 2 meals most days, I ate one before my diagnosis most the time! As long as you are doing the correct doses I've not had a problem with it-although I'm sure someone will have something to say about it! Haha

Yep. I have.. (For about 16 years.) Well until it all went "Spinal tap" a year ago.. Lol
I can commiserate... The useless "riders" & the dodgy "catering" laid on by the venues..

To be honest? I could never eat anything 7/8 hours prior to a gig.

Pretty sure Nick Jonas has had to deal with too, with the added issue of working out what to do with his pump as all the groupies enjoyed his company ;)

You do meet some strange women at these doos..
There was a young woman once trying to coherse me into taking her to an "after show party" right in front of her strapping German paramedic boyfriend.. (Nice patient guy. Though, spoke no English.)
I had no plans to attend this affair. But I did ask for her poor boyfriend's number. When she enquired why? I replied "for when you pass out. I'm a musician. Absolutely no use in these situations.." o_O Start the bus.... ;)
