I spent the morning making a picture with my 3-year-old granddaughter today, using LOTS of PVA glue and millions of glitzy, glittery sequins in varying shapes, sizes and colours, especially pink. She likes pink.
I drew the outline of a dog in glue, she filled it in with glue and then added the sequins. Then we gave him a big, googly eye and a felt collar with a tag. Then we painted the sky blue and added some green grass, and she stuck some silver stars in the sky and some sequin butterflies dancing along the grass.
You know what? I'm almost 63 years old, but I got TOTALLY engrossed in this and the final result was as important to me as it was to her. It was magnificent!
It was wonderful to forget all about the new gas & electricity tariff, the latest terrorist atrocities, and how to vote on the Brexit referendum this summer, and simply get totally immersed in glue and pink sequins, exchanging design concepts, evaluating the benefits and disadvantages of glue, and critiquing the latest episodes of Paw Patrol and Peppa Pig,
The morning passed at warp speed, and when it was time for her to go home I felt sated, elated and deflated all at the same time.
Then, she paused at the door, turned and ran back to me with a big hug and said, "I really LOVE you, Granny!"
There are no words.........

That picture is fab, what a lovely memory you've made with your granddaughter today :joyful: I love peeling all the leftover glue off my fingers after craft sessions :hilarious:

I love doing stuff like that with her.
We made a massive Family Tree a while ago - a big drawing of a tree with pictures of all her extended family on it, which I drew and she painted. It came about because she seemed to think that her family just comprised her mum, dad, sister and brother - not me, her grandad, uncle, cousins, etc., so I thought it might help her understand the concept. I'm not sure it did, but she LOVED making it! LOL...
