Hello! Ok bit of background.

Early 30s slim male, just within normal bmi.

Play sport twice weekly, and job involved burning lots of calories.

No family history of diabetes. Uk born, but Asian origin.

Have asthma & some allergies

Non smoker and rare drinker.

Diet: used to and still do eat junk sometimes (ready meals), and have a sweet tooth.

No fizzy pop. Just water (usual fluid intake 1.5-2l a day including a couple cups tea, water, semi skimmed milk). Get my 5 a day. Brown bread and pasta now (where possible).

Breakfast is better now (bran flakes, weetabix)

My concern
I sometimes go through bouts of thirst, like the last few days. No other symptoms, apart from consequently urinating more during these bouts.

So, I know the advise might be 'get a blood test '.

But I'm scared and just want reassurance first.

From what I've said, does it sound bad?

Because the way I've always seen it, maybe I get thirsty as I simply didn't drink enough the week before and sometimes the body is just rebalancing as I'm used to keeping well hydrated. I'm not drinking gallons and waking up to pee during the night.

I know some people who just drink and drink as that's how THEIR body is and they've been tested and clear.

Whilst you have described two symptoms that get associated with diabetes, it is not a slam dunk that its what you fear. I am a T2 but I had neither of these myself. The only time I got both of them together as a serious assault on my personage, it was when I had a urinary Tract Infection (UTI) and this had me drinking copiously and ugently using the loo like I have never before in my life. So it may be an infection causing your symptoms.

If you talk nicely to your local pharmacist, they usually have the wherewithall to either do a fingerprick blood test or a urine test. The urine test is not acccurate for glucose, but may show if it is being excreted, but a urine test can also show if an infection is present. It is also painless. Either test should be followed up by a GP test for diagnosis, since the pharmacy test is not accurate enough compared to a full set of lab tests, but it may help.
