whats the score with using powdered spices like ground ginger, garlic granules etc, do they affect the carb content, none of the bottles give nutritional values so im a bit wary, but it would be nice to add a little heat with some smoked paprika on some crispy fried belly pork
 
I usually Google for the carbs. There do seem to be some in some spices - especially fresh ones like ginger root - but if you're not eating much of them I doubt it would make a big difference.

as I mentioned above ginger is actually good in the long term for controlling your blood sugar levels so should actually be added to diet not avoided.

Hi also heard that Cinnamon is good for reducing Blood Glucose.
In the amounts you use of spices I generally don't worry about any Calories they may contain
 
I use loads of herbs and spices both dried and fresh, most if not all are very good for you, ginger, garlic, turmeric , fenugreek ,cinnamon are just a few that are good for diabetes
 
I use lots of different herbs and spices, I have never seen a detrimental effect on my sugar levels .

Only one I am cautious of is vanilla extract, some are in sugar solution.
 
thanks for the repies, but this seems to be focussing on bg levels, im more interested in carb content, im aware of the health benefits, but am doing lchf so need to concentrate on the actual carbs, as opposed to the bg level.
 
hi, the whole reason for LCHF is to control bg levels :)

i use spices and have never counted them in my carb count, they are magical are far as I'm concerned

im using it for both really, weight loss and BG control, both been succesful so far, dropped all meds and averaging 5.7. thanks that is most helpful, the link above.....

Next question, chicken stock cubes..... ;)

You misunderstood me. I didn't say avoid ginger I just said it may contain some carbs. I don't avoid all carbs, but I do count them. ;)

Sorry Sunspots, yes I did misunderstand you!

Ginger is an example of a food that might contain carbs but the trade off is that it actually is beneficial in reducing BG levels.

Actually it would be difficult to overload on ginger carbs:D
