Hi all. Was wondering if any of your can help? I'm a C5 tetraplegic. (Paralyzed from the neck down) Diving accident in 1994.
I have been a Type 2 for 10 years or so. Been taking 1 x 1000mg Glucophage for about 1 year. But when i get my 6 monthly check at the surgery, they say I'm an average blood of about 6.5ish and that I'm doing well on my tablet.
Now I've been trying to tell them that because i am not out of bed sometimes until 1pm and only eat once I'm up, then a meal at about 5pm. That this average is not right because i go so long without eating.
I’ve been doing my bloods for 1 month and my bloods are
once I'm up= 5-7ish
2/3 hours after “breakfast, once I'm up”= anything from 6 – 13
3 hours after evening meal = anything from 6 – 13

Now because I'm in a wheelchair i get very little/no exercise. Though I'm about to start using a hand cycle on a rolling road i built.

What i want to know is there any one else out there with a broken neck who could advice me on my blood sugar?

**BUMP**

Welcome to the forum, thank goodness I dont have a broken neck, there but for the grace of God.....so I am sorry I am probably not much use to you since you specifically asked for someone with a broken neck to advise you on your bs control.

Your fasting levels should be no higher than 5.5, its possible that they are higher because probably have the dreaded DP going on. What do you eat, and when?? Your pp reading should be no higher than 7.5, so your diet needs tweaking a little here and there and/or increase medication, you need to discuss with your HCPs.
I am sending you a link to member xyyz's post in response to another newbie,
viewtopic.php?f=20&t=30982, please have a good read and ask any questions you may have.

All the best

Hello RibTickler and welcome to the forum :)

Won't post the tome again as you've probably read it by now. As the majority of T2 members would tell you cutting carbs is the key to all of this. It's allowed many of us to get back to having non diabetic levels without the need for any or just minor medication. Doesn't cure you but does take loads of the worry and stress away.

Take care of yourself and ask as many questions as you need to.

Steve
