I recently had troubles controlling my sugars after 10 years on a twice a day insulin treatment I swapped to quick action and basal and was fine up until before Xmas when my long term and short term readings where all over the place
A fellow diabetic I work with who is also a pharmacist recommend I split my basal and did half am and half pm as he had had the same problems this has sorted it wonderfully and now my long term readings are coming down quickly I would highly recommend this as basal insulin only lasts up to 14-16 hours there are 24 hours in a day

Hi. If the Basal is Levemir then many split this. I don't as I have a low-carb breakfast so rely on the nightime Levemir morning peak to avoid needing a breakfast Bolus. I use the right ratio of Bolus in the evening to cater for the fading Levemir. This way I normally only have 3 injections per day. We are all different but this works well for me.

I'm on Lantus and about six weeks ago after reading comments on this forum, I decided to split mine. I'd been injecting it once a day at bedtime for years. I thought that was when it had to be taken and no one suggested otherwise. Anyway, it has worked out really well. BG is better generally and no more nighttime hypos. Yay!
