Splitting levirmir dosage really did not work for me,...

Well guys,
I followed the advice of someone on the forums to split my levirmir dosage (36 units per day) into two injections of 18 units for even better control.

Doing this gave me much higher readings especially in the morning.

Over the past few week I had to increase my levirmir both morning and evening from 18 units upto 26 twice a day. The results I got where still higher readings AM.

Three days ago I went back to one injection a day of 36 units.
My three morning readings have been perfect and my overall daily readings have been much more stable.

I'm wondering why this is and why on earth I had such poor results with the split injections?

That's weird isn't it? Possibly your evening dose of Levemir was too high and those morning highs reflected night-time hypos and consequential liver dumps? But I would have put money on you getting better control with a split dose; glad you've got it back in hand though...

What interests me is the realisation that different times of the day will have different insulin requirements (in a metabolic sense); for me the same amount of carbohydrate for breakfast will require a much higher dose than the same at lunch for instance (this is bolus insulin of course).

It's a subtle and wondrous thing this blood sugar control isn't it?
