SR metformin brands??

After 8 weeks on standard metformin I was given slow release 1000g. I was interested on any experience of the different brands, and any effects etc?
Originally I had morningside, now I have been given strides pharma?
Lastly whilst asking questions... I’m due to go for bloods at end of January but nervous to go whilst covid so bad. I’m hoping my bloods will have reduced dramatically. My concern is if I don’t go for bloods is there any risk of staying in full dose of meds? I’m on less than 40g carbs a day and lost almost 4 stone now and had reduced bloods from 97 to 64 in 8 weeks, back in mid December..
Really appreciate any thoughts thank you

My pharmacist changed the metformin I get on almost every time I get a new prescription. I assume it’s whatever is cheapest at any time

honestly, I’ve had no differences with any of them. No discernible side effects.

1000mg isn’t a full dose, 2000mg is. If your bloods have improved you could certainly aim to come off them. Well, to be fair you could come off them at any time, it’s your choice, but without knowing how your hba1c has changed you have no real idea how your body is handling things

your test is less than 3 months ago? Seems unusual to repeat so soon, not sure you’ll get the full picture of how your bloods have changed but I guess it will favour the most recent weeks so should help

nurses are being very careful to wear Ppe and have regular tests I’m sure. You have to make your own mind up

congrats on the prior drop in levels though, it’s a good trajectory
 

thank you for response, yes sorry I am on 2000g not 1000g.
I think dr said he wanted to do another blood test when it was the full 12 weeks of being on meds and low carb diet as seeing impact of weight loss.
 
Ah yes, 12 weeks is roughly 3 months... doh!
So I’m pretty much in the same position as you, just had my hba1c where the drop allowed my 2000 to move to 1000, if my next test in 3 months shows a continued stability it improvement I may well move to zero

so, good luck!

Hi. I think I've had every brand of Metformin SR and haven't spotted any difference. To be honest ref staying on full dose Met, this drug has relatively little effect anyway so won't do any harm to stay on 2000mg. Even my new diabetes consultant last week agreed it had little effect on BS.
