staph

Not really. Staph is not particularly associated with diabetes or vice versa. However, if diabetes is poorly controlled you are more likely to pick up infections/viruses generally, which will in turn interfere with diabetic control, so it can be a vicious circle. Its tempting to blame everything on the diabetes but diabetes does not stop you getting other things wrong with you.

Staphs, and Streps, are groups of bacteria that live on and around us. Mostly, most of them don't cause any problems unless our general health and resistance are compromised.
The best strategy is to keep BG at or near non-diabetic levels,ie. around 5 at all times.

Just a thought. If you keep getting infections I suggest asking your GP for a blood test to check your antibody levels. Someone who recently had staph (or other common bacterial infection) should have plenty of antibodies, so a lower level might suggest your body isn' t hanging onto the antibodies like it should, thus your immunity is reduced. You might need a vaccination followed by repeat blood tests to check how your immune system responds to the vaccination.
