[QUOTE="Allarepossible, post: 419691, member: 78253"] I have just started the Atkins Diabetic Revolution and I am determined to get rid of this curse. I have been in denial since I was diagnosed 2 years ago. Attempted to control it via diet at first but the levels were in the teens and twentys for a good while. I am abhorred at the medical profession for letting me go like this for so long! Even when they put me on Metformin, my levels continued to be high for ages. Until in July this year it reached an amazing 32.9 and I was taken to hospital via ambulance. This happened twice and then I was seen at the hospital diabetes clinic, and put immediately on insulin, which was such a shock I burst into tears. Fortunately, the diabetic specialist doctor was quite empathetic and said she I could come off it, which I am hopeful for. She also said she is an advocate for Patrick Holford low carbs which I was on and lost 3 stone in 1 year! My friend let me borrow this book when I kept having hypos due to the insulin levels being new etc., the nurse said I should reduce my units to 10 in the morning and 6 in the evening, stating that it is better my levels are high than the lows I had been having. Anyway, I dont want it to be high AGAIN, so I decided to do something about it. They keep telling me to eat carbs to counteract the lows, but I have since put back 1 stone in weight! So I have started the Atkins way, and my bloods have gone down again to as low as 5.2 and I have been fine so far. I will do my best to stick to it, because it has such wonderful, hopeful information that has led me to believe I can get rid of this vile disease. It is the absolute bane of my life, I hate injecting, and remembering to constantly prick my more than sore fingers. Using a drop of tea tree while washing my hands, have helped a bit though.
