Here you go http://www.inputdiabetes.org.uk/ plenty of info to read.Hi all - I have been reading online about insulin pumps and they sound like a really good idea to consider. Does anyone know how I can start or get information about a pump or be able to qualify for one?
Much appreciated
Aimee
Have you done DAFNE? As you have to have done DAFNE before they put you on a pump! Good Luck! xThank you very much

Yes bring that up with herI believe so! I remember a few years ago me and my diabetes nurse were talking through DAFNE. Might be worth talking to her and my team again and seeing about it.
Thank you though
Yes bring that up with herHow is your control? If you have any questions then I am happy to answer them! I am on the pump now! x
Ah yes just like how I was then! you may meet the criteria thenMy control has been poor for the last few years but past 6 months it has improved drastically. All my blood sugars are between 4-10 95% of the time. I have seen the pump and I think it would help me keep it this way and not go back into my old ways and I think it would be more suitable for my lifestyle too.
Thank you for the offer as well. Might need some advice if I do manage to get it and I know who to turn to.
They like to tell you/insist you do DAFNE before you have a pump.(it wastes time before you go on a pump) This is not correct though, as long as you have a good understanding of carb counting and insulin adjustment then you do not need to go on a carb counting course.Have you done DAFNE? Fair enough lol mine was down the road and was put on it after having DKA for the 3rd time! That's lucky lol! xThey may insist but NICE guidelines do not insistI point blank refused to travel well over 100 miles a day to listen to someone explaining to me how to adjust my insulin and carb count. My GP is my nominated HCP I never attend pump clinics or hospitals never met a DSN.
I had to fight for my pump very hard lucky for me my GP backed me all the way. I've never had DKA or needed admittance to hospital due to diabetes in almost 50 years of type 1 so count myself lucky in that dept.Fair enough lol mine was down the road and was put on it after having DKA for the 3rd time! Lucky indeed i didnt really have to fight for my pump as I asked my consultant she said I dont see why not and my nurse agreed with her and 6 months later I got it!I had to fight for my pump very hard lucky for me my GP backed me all the way.
