Type of diabetes
Type 1
I am a six monthly diagnosed T 3 or 1 1/2 (they keep changing terms and their minds due to being bought on my hormones. On Metfartin twice a day) and am fairly stable. However today for no apparent reason before supper, 4 hours after last eating, I was 14. Having since eaten a sensible low carb meal I’m now starving but I’m still 11. What can I eat??

How is your diabetes treated? Neither type 1 nor type 3 are treated with metformin alone. They are treated with basal bolus insulin regiemes. Neither type 1 (which is autoimmune diabetes) nor type 3 (which is pancreatic damage diabetes) is "brought on by hormones".

Type 2 diabetes is often treated with metformin only. Type 2 diabetes can be caused by hormonal imbalances (associated with PCOS and stress).

Hi there - You could try some cheese? That wouldn't usually impact your bloods too much.

What tests did you have for your diagnosis? When you say your diabetes was brought on by hormones, could you explain that a bit more. Type 3c is usually happens after damage to the pancreas from pancreatitis, cysts or tumours. T1.5 is a slow, later onset sort of T1. Could you clarify which you are as your thread title and then your text conflict.

I appreciate it's all quite bewildering to start with.

Salad! My favourite snack. Add meat, cheese, nuts if you're extra hungry. Just make sure you check the carbs if you are putting on dressing, sometimes they have sugar in them.
