Statins Are Underused in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes, Study Suggests: Presented at EASD
http://main.pslgroup.com/news/content.nsf/MedicalNews/852576140048867C852577A500626D26
"Roughly a third of patients with type 2 diabetes who are eligible for statin therapy based on standard guidelines are not receiving a statin prescription, according to a study being presented here tomorrow at the 46th Annual Meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD)."

I get a prescn but don't take em all the time... have a better diet but it is starting me a wonderin' 8)

I used to take Statins
but after reading some of the posts on the forum and a discussion with my doctor i decided to stop them because of the pains in my calf muscles, within 3 weeks i was back to normal, and on my last blood tests i had got my cholesterol down from 5.9 to 5.1 and still dropping,
he wants me to try a tiney dose of statin just 10mg instead of the 40mg i was on before, I am going to give it a try but any leg probs i am straight back off them, will also be watching my diet and weight as before and should be on target soon soon to reduce meds further anyway
best of luck

Despite the drawbacks there may be good news... 8)
Statins reduce markers of inflammation
Statin therapy is associated with significant reductions in inflammatory parameters such as white blood cell count (WBC) and C-reactive protein (CRP), an analysis of US population data indicates.

They conclude: “This analysis supports the hypothesis that statins have anti-inflammatory effects which may possibly help to moderate the risk of heart disease and stroke.”
