Statins and retinopthy

I thought that people were prescribed simvastatin to lower cholesterol. I have never heard of it being taken to benefit the eyes but what do I know?

My opinion is that statins could be involved with the sore hands.

I don't know what PDR is so I am no help there.

I came off statins as the side effects on my husband when he was on them was awful . As my cholesterol is low anyway can't see the point .

Definitely mention the sore hands as it may well be a side-effect of the statin your taking, they may suggest you try an alternative if the statin is found to be the cause of your discomfort.

You don't say what your cholesterol levels are,however they do say that people suffering from diabetic retinopathy should make sure that their cholesterol levels are controlled together with bg and bp, if you've not seen the following website before then it's worth a look:

Thanks for the replies. Looks like no one knows the definitive answer although I found a small snippet on a medical site for early retinopathy.

Well if the statin is doing the job of lowering your cholesterol then they are helping with your PDR.
