Type 2 Statins

Never started, never would, cholesterol total around 6.0 but make up of that total is much better than it was before I started eating low carb high fat way. Too low cholesterol is as dangerous if not more so than too high according to current research. Cholesterol was never a risk factor for heart disease anyway. To blame cholesterol for heart disease it's like saying that as firefighters are there at the scene of every fire they must have caused it so we'll reduce the number of firefighters.

I stopped .. very pleased I did .. it was with the consent of my heart failure nurse.

I stopped taking them. To begin with they affected my legs. For the first two types of statins tried I ended up unable to walk for a month each time. The third kind made me go rigid, my shoulders felt warm and I couldn't turn my head. I was sent to the physio to sort that but being off the pills was what actually fixed it. The fourth kind gave me a condition like gastro enteritis. I ate less and less until I reached a point where just to look at food made me retch. I am now on record as intolerant of statins.

Please do .. I was told my health problems were nothing to do with Statins .. odd as when I stop taking them my painful arms and legs became usable again.. My only regret is I listened to my Dr saying they were not the problem !! so took them for to long.

I have stopped taking them though I did not suffer most of the reported side effects I just do not trust them.

I stopped. Was put on them early stage by my shortly to be retiring doctor, when I came off Metformin and my BP and cholesterol was ok I decided to stop them. Haven't seen my doc yet since

I was put on them after being diagnosed with an hba1c of 48 and my bs went up to 54 and I kept having dizzy spells so came off them. My BS is now within normal levels.

I was started on statins but after 11 months I stopped all medication and I have been fine and the Dr has never questioned why I stopped.

I was on statins for a fair while for high blood pressure well before I was diagnosed with diabetes. After starting on my low carb higher fat diet, my cholesterol went right down to potentially dangerous levels - my GP thought this figure was wonderful and amazing but fortunately someone on the forum told me different, and I eventually reduced the dose with the agreement of our surgery's (short term !) diabetic support GP, and then refused to take them any longer. My cholesterol results at my last checkup were within normal levels, and I now have a note on my records as being "currently off statins".

So I think that unless there's a very good reason to need them you shouldn't have to take them "just because" there's some general NHS policy decision to feed them to us.

PS Low carbing appears to have helped with my blood pressure levels, and after an experiment with my GP - testing them at home - he came to the conclusion that they were partly caused by "white coat syndrome"!

I can remember that each time DN changed statins she stroked the box and said, "No-one has had a problem with these". It was reassuring and very probably a lie.
