Many GPs push statins without having any real idea of how they work or the side effects. If your cholesterol is way high then you may well choose to have them. If your levels are not far from normal many of us would stay away from them. The body needs some cholesterol to help damage repair so a balance is needed. Families who have a history of heart problems might reduce the risk with statins. I had no problems when on statins but my wife had serious liver problems. If you take them and have muscle aches then stop them or ask the GP to change the type.

Hi Robert I have been on simvastatin 10mg for 12 years now & I don't have any side affects & that I just one of1 of 12 tablets I take daily

My reading is 6'2 doctor nearly had a fit when I told him I was not going on statins. I like cycling and think this helped to keep it down over the summer month so I will hold on for a bit longer and get back on the bike again

Robert I'd certainly give lifestyle changes a go before considering statins, that said if I couldn't get my cholesterol levels down I personally would give statins a go. There's quite a lot of discussions about statins on the forum and if you use the search facility in the top right hand corner of the forum you'll find them, my own Endo says exercise is terrific at lowering cholesterol levels........ so get that bike out more!

I usually go out and try and do 10 to 20 mile every day but can't get out all the time and have a frozen shoulder just now so that not helping

No that won't help on the exercise front Robert, however walking is just as effective and shouldn't bother your shoulder as much

We'll never thought of that I will get the dog out walking till I can get on the bike and my shoulder is ok
Thanks for the response it it's much appreciated.
