statins

Sorry to hear about your stroke.

You only have to search the forum @numan43 and will find people for and against statins. There is no general consensus of opinion.

It would seem you are a good candidate for them, as protection against further problems. Were you ok on them? Even doctors who don't like statins prescribe them for folk like you who have had problems. Do take Q10 with them, statins deplete Q10 and that's essential.

If you dont suffer from their side effects and get regular liver function tests then there shouldnt be much of a problem with them. Do you take any anti-coagulants?
I also need to take statins, small dosage of 10 mg simvastatin/day.

I'm quite happy taking Simvastatin 40mg daily. Been on them for years now with no side effects and my cholesterol is constant around 3.5.

Muscle pain and weakness are amongst the most common side effects of statins . A matter to take up with your doctor.

Best that you mention any side-effects to your gp, if it is the statin then your gp may prescribe a different one to see if that improves matters.

Same here got a burning pain in my arms and chest not all the time !!! When I press the pain area feels like it bruised then it goes away ? Keep thinking that I am having a heart attack which then makes me have panic attack !!

I had similar with pains area in chest but not all the time... Got bad at Christmas a few years ago now and within 2 days of stopping I've never had a recurrence.

I tried every statin and ezemtibe on GP request because I am diabetic... But never again.

Yep. Same here. But I'm massively biased so just ignore me.

Results: Among 14 primary prevention trials (46,262 participants),
statin therapy increased diabetes by absolute risk of 0.5% (95% CI 0.1–1%, p¼0.012),
meanwhile reducing death by a similar extent: 0.5% (0.9 to 0.2%, p¼0.003).
In the 15 secondary prevention RCTs (37,618 participants), statins decreased death by 1.4% (2.1 to 0.7%, p<0.001).
There were no other statin-attributable symptoms,
although asymptomatic liver transaminase elevation was 0.4% more frequent with statins across all trials. Serious adverse events and withdrawals were similar in both arms.

Conclusions:
Only a small minority of symptoms reported on statins are genuinely due to the statins:
almost all would occur just as frequently on placebo.

Only development of new-onset diabetes mellitus was significantly higher on statins than placebo; nevertheless only 1 in 5 of new cases were actually caused by statins. Higher statin doses produce a detectable effect, but even still the proportion attributable to statins is variable: for asymptomatic liver enzyme elevation, the majority are attributable to the higher dose; in contrast for muscle aches, the majority are not.

the way I look at it ..if nothing else take statin for neuropathy, retinopathy and gangrene of the foot
