soaps on telly and people talking about the characters as if they were real.
I steam all veggies over a pan. the pan-top steamer came with pans I inherited from my late mother-in-law. However such things don't cost much anyway. the kitchen department of TK Maxx often has them and chinese bamboo ones can be found too. A metal collander can be pressed into use.
I like veggies quite well done and soft, so I usually cook for about 15 minutes.
Fish I do in the microwave. I cook for 1 minute on full power, then look and do another minute and cook and keep repeating until the fish is just underdone and still a bit transparent. It will finish cooking on its own in seconds. the worst thing you can do to fish is overcook it..
Stews I do in the slow cooker or pressure cooker, depending on how far ahead I planned the meal.
We love Belly pork and I do that in the combi microwave on "convection", bcause I get lovely crispy crackling and I leave it about 2 hours and so save on fuel.
When I buy fresh veggies, they go straight into a fridge. I have one in the utility room just for that. Meat goes straight into the freezer, unless it's being used the same day. cheese has a box in the fridge. Berries go into the fridge and apples into a bowl on the kitchen worktop.
I have one of those china chickens for eggs and there's always cream in the fridge for enriching soups or my coffee.

We have several types of steamer all of which get used regularly. The one we like the most is one we got from Tupperware. Excellent for veggies.

Bought 2 chickens they have done us 4 meals and the bones are now being boiled for soup. Soups are made and portioned and frozen.

Home made sauces done the same. We too adore fish my personal favourite is smoked eel which my father brings me back from Holland. Tuna steaks this weekend (yum)

Since stopping smoking 16 years ago and finding out that my tastebuds are totally awake how good home prepared foods taste so good. No salt (it gives me cramp) but love herbs and they taste so nice. We grow our own my dad takes care of the parsley as it always grows best for the head of the house (or so he claims)
