Hi all im new here trying to get some advise and help.i was on a progesterone steriod 10 years ago and I developed high blood sugar whilst on the steriod.i was diagnosed with type 1 and given insulin I was started on the normal amount but was starting to hypo and my body was still making insulin ,I knew i didnt have type 1 and i came off the steriods and within 2 weeks I had to use less and less insulin until I stopped as my insulin started to kick in.the problem is ever since coming off the steriod i was left insulin resistant i have managed to keep this away with diet but now I am using a continuous glucose monitor and I can see spikes sometimes going up to 13 with the wrong food but by the 2 hour mark i am back in range has anyone managed to reverse this it seems to be going up very high after carbs like chips crisp pastry i cant eat Any of that kind of food anymore I want to know has any ever managed to reverse this and any advice would be great thank you.iv also started doing some exercises for the first time in 10 years i wasn't able to before but since my health has got better im able to now im also skinny and iv lost a stone on the keto diet now Im 7 and half stone and cant afford to loose anymore weight.

type1 can have honeymoon phase where can come off insulin altogether in some cases requiring to go back on at somepoint in the future. Was cpeptide alongside gad done confirming diagnosis or has medical consultant changed your diagnosis? for type2 steriod induced diabetes i know of a few renal transplant patients when stopped steriods returned to more normal levels for glucose. dsn have has said she had a t1/lada patient 8 years and counting with much reduced insulin needs. don't have personal knowledge in relation to what you were taking specifically.

return to approx 2mmol/L difference after food consumed at the 2 hour mark or meaning top end of range? other question has hba1c been done at all recently?

Hi and welcome to the forum. We are not allowed to diagnose on the forum @nyimah , but we can offer our own experiences. Have you had a HbA1c test recently? It’s a blood draw that tests to see what your average blood sugars are over the past 3 months. That would give you a clearer picture of how your body is dealing with carbohydrates.

Foods with high carbohydrates usually do send blood sugars up, even in non diabetics . 13 mmol/Ls is probably on the higher end of normal for a post meal rise, but certainly not surprisingly so, given it’s after something particularly carby. My own blood sugars, if after eating something carby, can easily reach 13 and beyond, but mine can stay up for several hours, only gradually coming down, the important bit is your body deals with that rise relatively quickly. If you are concerned I would ask your Dr first a HbA1c test.

Hi thank you for your reply yes I have recently been to a diabetic specialist and had tests done i making a normal amount of c peptide levels i tested negative for type 1 type 2 and type 1.5 and the conclusion was the steriods induced type 2 so now will be treated as a type 2 diabetic i am going very high if I eat things I shouldn't by by the time its 2 hrs im back in range again my last hba1c was 51 with previous ones 48 I did manage to get mine down to 42 before so I cut all the sugar out and the carbs that would spike insulin and eat with fibre fat and protien and that works

Sorry @nyimah I should have asked, are you still on steroids ?

Hi and welcome @nyimah

It is difficult to know what is actually going on, and we are not allowed to diagnose or give medical advice. Also as I have T2, never my own experience may not be relevant to you, and your situation.

I did have steroid induced gestational diabetes many years ago. Which left me prone to T2 which emerged some 25 years later.
Through weight loss and low carb diet, with just Metformin medication I maintain Blood Glucose levels in the non-diabetes range.

I note that you are having higher readings with the more carby foods, chips, pastry, etc., which many of us do. It is concerning that you are losing weight on keto. So I would agree with the suggestion that you get some blood work done by GP to get full info, and a treatment plan.
