Priorities... Couple of days of slightly elevated bloodsugars (and you're doing really well with those!), or letting a chest infection get out of hand. My doc told me to get in touch if I didn't drop below 15 anymore when she put me on steroids for a bit, and yours seem to be well under that still. Take care of that chest infection, and then get your gut straightened out again (supplements, sauerkraut, yoghurt, whatever). I just hope you'll feel better soon!I have been put on 40g Prednisilone and 3x500g Amoxicillin daily for 5 days into my 3rd day now.
Doctor put me on these for chest infection which resulted from Flu.
I have been following a resistant starch diet for over a year now (know that the Amoxicillin will kill of so much of the gut biome that I have built up)
Also know that Prednisilone raises blood sugars.
So for me its like a double whammy with both affecting bg.
First day of the meds had me up from my normal bg of 6 - 6.5 to 9 - 10.
Have now reduced my daily carb intake from 150g to 200g down to about 25 or less and have found that this helps as now the bg is between 7 - 8.5.
The higher reading is usually 2 hrs after taking the steroids.
I'm going to do the low carb for 6 days and then back to the resistant starch diet.
Now I know we are all different but what sort of bg readings would be expected and are mine reasonable?
Thanks,
Tom
You are doing all you can. You are on day 3. Only 2 days to go. I would just ride it out if it were me because you know the reason.
Edited to add - Fage Greek yogurt is recommended as an excellent way to improve gut biome

Thanks wasn't sure how long the prednisilone would take to get out of my system that was the major worry as not happy about bg being higher than 8 now.I shouldn't worry too much once you have finished the course of preds their effect will subside antibiotics I know not of as I have not had them for a long time. So can't say much about them from experience.
Short course of preds is not usually critical long term is more problematic it may not be an instant drop in BG levels but it will drop I am sure. I always try to take my preds early in the day as they are more effective that way also if I take them mid day or later the effect on blood sugar is more marked in the later part of the day this is what I find any way and my pharmacist also advised me to take them first thing in the morning.
