Hi I am t2. Trulicity 3mg weekly and glucopage 200mg at teatime I was put on steroids yesterday for another health condition and my glucose level went up to 19 and my ketones 0.5. I never have ketones over 0.2 and I know 0.5 isn’t high but it worried me. I hadn’t eaten any carbs or sugary stuff since my last hba1c of 79 I have been very strict with myself

Hi,

Steroids are known to raise blood glucose - sometimes by a great deal.
Make sure you track your blood glucose and ketones carefully, and keep a record of them to show your doc.

I should get back in touch with whoever prescribed the steroids, and contact your doc (or whoever treats your diabetes) and discuss the raised blood glucose levels with them. You all need to weigh the priorities of your other health condition, your diabetes, and the risks from increased blood glucose, and see which is the most urgent. A lot will depend on whether you are going to be on the steroids long or short term, and the doseage.

Best wishes - it must be a stressful time.

If you are only on steroids for a short term once you cease taking them blood sugars should return to normal quite soon.
