Still early days....

I'm approaching first month of monitoring about blood sugars and LCHF following recent Prediabetes diagnosis. Looking at my fasting BG, they have averaged between 5's and 6's but this morning I witnessed my first jump through what I deduce must be dawn phenomenon. (Have just spent an hour browsing through the thread which has left my brain in a spin trying to understand it all!) Strangely I did feel a bit different overnight and may be experiencing a bit of stress and not sleeping as well as usual. My pre bed level was 6.1 and then it rose to 7.8 on waking in bed this am.

1) Has my liver dumped because of empty tummy?

I had a 'brunch' yesterday so didn't really eat much til about 1pm when I had Lidl protein roll and butter, blueberries and crème fraiche and snacked on cheese and nuts then 7pm supper - chicken, soft cheese dollop, green veg, couple of plums (oops) and a few coffees/ teas through day (with milk) . I was aware of going to bed at 11.30 having not eaten since supper.

2) Is this the reason for my rise this morning? Should I have snacked before bed?

My concern is that if I have a Dawn Phenomenon rise on the day of my review test in January, I could be diagnosed type 2. I recently phoned surgery for results from earlier test in July but they had no Hb1ac - only a fasting BG of 6.3.

3) Should I insist they do a Hb1ac at this stage as it might be more indicative of the trend.?

4) Any advice for my DawnP?

5) I was doing better earlier in the month when perhaps I was more vigilant. Seem to have settled with weight at 15.2st which still makes me 31 BMI and surely some exercise will help bring that down....and my BG level control into normal non D?.

I would appreciate your insights. Thank you:)

I would insist on an HbA1c. You might find this info helpful:

1) & 2) & 4) In short, probably, please see http://www.diabetes.co.uk/blood-glucose/dawn-phenomenon.html
3) Good question, HbA1c will indicate a trend if you have a previous HbA1c to compare with, also as you're only just coming up to following LC for a month, and the HbA1c "reflects" 8 - 12 weeks, it's probably not worth it yet.
5) Some exercise? You'd have to define some. There was a period of about 6 months when I swam 1/2 km to 1 km 5 times a week, 3 X 1 hr in the gym, 1 hr Personal Trainer, 1 hr swimming lesson and a round of golf every week and it did help to bring my BG down.

In theory lower carb should help weight loss to a certain degree, unless you replace all the calories with the HF bit. You can see how many calories you require by using the Harris Benedict Formula, it's not perfect, but it's a good indication of what you should be consuming.
