Hi I have been diagnosed for 3 months now - on diet control for type 2 - but although sticking to diet - i also suffer from diverticular disease and an fibre and carboydrate intolerant - finding it hard to control both - I am also constantly tired - muscle aches and pains are sometimes so bad that i cannot sleep at night - stopped the statins as my cloasteral levels are normal and they were making symptoms worse .My blood sugar level before and am and pm are at a constant 9.8 to11.2 most days even after fasting - dont know what to do anymore - Gp and diabetic appointments do not seem to be concerned but i feel awful :? :? - any suggestions

Hi Lorna.
Do I "know" how you must feel !!!! ?
I TOO suffer from diverticulitis bowel disease, plus the diabetes!
It has taken me 2years to work out what foods etc I must steer 'clear' from ....
ALL beige foods to put it bluntly !!!!
If I have 1 slice of bread or a potatoe am sunk !!!!
Onions KILL me !!!!
So breads, pasta, pastry, potatoes, hard cheese, root vegs are all out for me! [plus anything carbonated/fizzy drinks!] NO - NO
Can only digest SMALL vegs , certain types of crackers, philidelphia lite cream cheese, yougurts, salads, tiny bits of bacon lardons, fruit, eggs, small morsels of chicken, make my own casseroles!
Eat tiny portions to allow for bit at a time digestion, limits the pain and extreme bloating, wind and cramps...
Every day it impacts as we have to eat to live!
fatigue and tiredness gets me too... So I truly DO know where you are at ...
Had to draw up a 'can' tollerate list, stick with it, collect recipes to make tasty meals using these foods. [made a cheery folder and collect these still]
Find and use the right meds that worked, colofac/mebeverine combined with cocodamols. [suit me and work :D ]
Am on insulin and victoza diabetes meds, took me 2yrs to find this combo that DOES work! Finally... YAY...
Use and take vitamins to help me fight off illnesses and bugs n viruses etc...
Keep as active as possible too helps! Keeps the bowel functioning and chugging along!
Have to mention here - that when you do get an divert [flare up] attack or infection your blood sugars WILL 'spike' upwards, there is actually little you can do , except wait for it to settle down and then the blood sugars will bob back down again.
Its a pain and needs a real balance to keep things stable, so 'NOT' easy I know.
Are you not under a gastro consultant or specialist ? Had any investigations ?
Sadly as the GP and diabetic clinics dont deal with this area they wont be able to give you any magic angles to help you along your way. This is why I ask if you're not seeing a gastro consultant or specialist .
There is also different levels of severity of the divert disease, mild, moderate, severe, some grade it 1.2.3.
I am grade 3 . But have had it 7 years now.
Love tomatoes , but the seeds from them dont love me! Sit in my pockets getting infected!!!
You can PM me if you wish .
Hope this helps?
Anna.x :D

 Thanks so much it helps to know it is just not me - I am under a gastro consult - but appointment times - and waiting lists are long here - i am grade 2 - and have not had a flare up for a while but am getting increasingly intolerant to foods similar to you - so will peservere and thanks for the advice xx :)
